A concert for Britten’s birthday (22 November 1913), featuring his A Charm of Lullabies, Op. 41, a song cycle for mezzo-soprano and piano, consisting of five songs composed on poems by William Blake, Robert Burns, Robert Greene, Thomas Randolph and John Phillip. Also featuring Britten’s song cycle Winter Words Op. 52 for tenor and piano, written in 1953 it sets 8 of Thomas Hardy’s poems, and Britten’s well known A Ceremony of Carols Op. 28 written for upper voices and harp. The music will be interspersed with fascinating reflections on Britten, with slides, from Dr Nicholas Clark (Britten Pears Arts)
