Britten’s Friday Afternoons is a collection of twelve song settings, composed in 1933–35, for the pupils of Clive House School, Prestatyn, Wales, where his brother, Robert, was headmaster. The Festival workshops and concert are held on Friday afternoons which is the same time that singing classes were held in Britten’s brother’s school.
Seasons and Charms by Jonathan Dove, is a collection of short pieces for young people’s voices and piano, inspired by Britten’s Friday Afternoons. Written in 2016 Seasons and Charms, was commissioned by Aldeburgh Music for their Friday Afternoons project.
