A public masterclass for young professional singers exploring arias from Britten’s operas Billy Budd, Peter Grimes and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Sir John Tomlinson, the renowned British bass-baritone and Lewes resident, has a significant connection to Britten, having performed many of his iconic roles like Claggart in Billy Budd and Balstrode in Peter Grimes, earning GRAMMY and Classic CD awards for his Britten recordings, and participating in discussions about Britten’s vocal music, showcasing his deep expertise in Britten’s operatic and song repertoire. Sir John is a leading interpreter of Britten’s heavy bass roles, contributing greatly to the international popularity of the composer’s works.
